Neuroscience isn’t just for adults; it’s for kids too! Our team recently organized a one-day workshop to introduce young students at Ceip Palmerillo school in Dos Hermanas to the wonders of the human brain. The goal? To make complex topics accessible and fun for children.
Javier kicked off the event with an engaging talk, sharing fascinating facts about the brain. He explained that the human brain weighs around 1.5 kg, and that neurons, the cells responsible for transmitting information, communicate through electrical signals. He also captured the kids’ attention by telling them that the human brain has nearly 100 billion neurons! To make things even more exciting, he introduced the concept of how non-invasive electrical stimulation could influence brain activity in a safe and scientific way.
Guille and Marta then took the students on a journey through the animal kingdom, showing them the differences and similarities between various animal brains. They discussed how skulls have evolved across species to protect the brain and highlighted key evolutionary trends.
Isabel and Ángela brought neuroscience to life by showing the kids what brain cells, or neurons, look like. Using mouse brain samples and Golgi staining techniques, they demonstrated the intricate shapes of neurons, sparking awe and curiosity among the young audience.
Last but not least, Rebeca played a crucial role in organizing the event and liaising with the school to ensure everything ran smoothly. Thanks to her, the day went off without a hitch.
It was a rewarding team effort. Seeing the children’s excitement as they learned about neuroscience filled us with joy and motivation.
