Marta’s Doctoral Stay in Rome

Our team is thrilled to welcome Marta back from her research stay in Rome. A dream come true for her to spend time in the Eternal City while learning Italian. Marta had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Dr. Giacomo Koch, Director of the Experimental Neurophysiology Laboratory at the Fondazione Santa Lucia. During her time there, she explored how non-invasive electrical stimulation techniques, such as transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), can be applied to Alzheimer’s patients. These advanced approaches aim to improve diagnosis, uncover disease mechanisms, and even slow the progression of memory loss symptoms.

Beyond the science, Marta also embraced Italian culture, picking up some basic Italian and developing a newfound appreciation for a perfectly brewed espresso.

Her experience has been immensely positive, and while she’s come back with fresh knowledge and enthusiasm, we’ve truly missed her here in the lab. Three months felt like an eternity without her! Welcome back Marta, we can’t wait to dive into the next chapter together.
