Brain Stimulation Conference 2025 at Universidad Pablo de Olavide

On May 26–27, 2025, the Universidad Pablo de Olavide hosted the Brain Stimulation Conference 2025, a joint meeting of he Spanish Association of Brain Stimulation (REDESTIM). The event brought together researchers from across the country to share the latest findings, explore new ideas, and strengthen collaborations in the field of neuromodulation.

This year’s edition was made possible thanks in large part to the efforts of our PhD student Ángela Martínez Zafra, who served on the scientific committee and played a key role in organizing the event. Thanks to her dedication, and the support of our lab, the conference came to life here in Seville.

Over the course of two days, participants engaged in sessions covering topics such as structure-guided neuromodulation, spinal cord stimulation, translational research, home-based interventions, and new perspectives on tACS. The atmosphere was dynamic, with engaging talks and lively discussions throughout.

Our lab was actively involved in the scientific program:

  • Ángela Martínez Zafra presented her work on the selective modulation of neuronal and sensory activity using transcranial static magnetic stimulation in awake mice.
  • Guillermo Sánchez Garrido discussed the frequency-dependent effects of tACS on the synchronization of pyramidal cells and interneurons.
  • Marta Estévez Rodríguez shared her findings on the differential effects of tDCS on excitatory and inhibitory cortical neurons using optogenetic approaches.
  • Javier Márquez Ruiz, principal investigator of our lab, gave a talk on the effects of tACS on cortical and hippocampal circuits in animal models.

We are very pleased with how the event turned out and grateful to everyone who contributed to making it a success. It was a fantastic opportunity to share science, connect with colleagues, and reflect on the future of brain stimulation.

We’re already looking forward to the next edition!
